Reporting to the Leader- Distribution and Sales, the Analyst- Distribution Planning will be primarily responsible for broadening Swoop’s distribution capabilities to improve revenue generation via third party channels. In addition, they will be responsible for providing strategic, operational, and analytical support across a range of distribution topics/subjects right up to the top levels of leadership, including onboarding new distribution channel partners, and increasing revenue through optimization in relation to existing third party distribution channels (E.g., Google Flights, Expedia, Group Bookings etc.).

Working closely with the Leader- Distribution and Sales, you will be charged with making improvements to and monitoring aspects of the sales and distribution strategy for Swoop. This includes aspects relating to agency and package sales, ancillary development, third-party vendor management for hotels, rental cars, insurance and like opportunities in the market as they present themselves. This can extend into sales and contracts relating to GDS systems and payment and processing vendors. You will do this while building a clear and articulate strategy by sales channel and location (point of sale), including the development of reporting in these areas. Please note, this is a 12-month temporary position.

Work Location: The role will be required to be in Calgary with a hybrid workplace approach (work-from-home) and will be required to report in-office ~1x per week or more, at the discretion of the Leader, Distribution and Sales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Broaden distribution: Establish and manage relationships with third party vendors, including contract negotiations and the leading of project scope work to capitalize on distribution opportunities in an efficient manner;
  • Decisions driven by data: Support Swoop team as needed up to and including CEO level with strategy and data driven decision making, market and competitive information, program management and general problem solving under pressure of deadlines and shifting priorities; Collaborate with IT to refine reporting processes;
  • Exceed targets: Work closely within the Commercial Group of Digital and Marketing, Sales, Project Management, Reservations Support, Network Planning, IT Development, Pricing and Revenue Management to jointly achieve network and revenue goals;
  • Financial reporting and analysis: Work with Finance to report on outcomes, establish payment services best practice and build forecasts of expected future outcomes whilst maintaining a strict cost of sale;
  • Innovative mindset: Identify and drive key innovation initiatives that will distinguish Swoop from its peer. Run discreet projects outside of daily operations examining new opportunities for growth;
  • Goal setting and reporting: Monitor KPI performance, adjusting and communicating strategies needed to meet goals;
  • Strategic planning: Extract, organize and manipulate data sets to regularly analyze competitive landscape, devise strategies, identify opportunities and evaluate results;
  • Technical expertise: Proficient use and adaptation of technology to complete job duties including but not limited to general data mining, Navitaire, Power BI, and Microsoft Office suite with Intermediate skill level in Excel;
  • Account Management: maintain strong relationship with Partners.  Provide daily support to partner bookings as well as ability to lead monthly external meetings to strategize and optimize;
  • Ability to effectively disseminate information across multiple organizations and stakeholders;
  • Accountability: Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget;
  • Potential to lead large and important company projects;
  • Act as backup/ support to the Leader-Distribution and Sales.

Education and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or another related field;
  • Minimum of 4-years in an Analyst type role demonstrating project management and strategic decision making in a fast-paced environment, preferably within a ULCC and/or airline environment;
  • Strong data and analytical competency with proven track record of taking complex data and providing strategy and recommendations to key stakeholders;
  • Understanding of Distribution Strategy, Airline/Travel Vendors, Third-Party Distribution models is considered an asset;
  • Proficiency with airline technology such as reservations systems (e.g., Navitaire), GDS, ATPco is considered an asset;
  • Understanding of airline fares/rules/taxes/surcharges/pricing components is considered an asset:
  • Knowledge of commercial airline elements, including sales, distribution, digital strategy, product development, revenue management, and pricing concepts, general airline economics and quantitative methods.

The Leader, Crew Scheduling role is accountable for leading all aspects of Swoop’s Crew Scheduling team. Accountable to the Director of Operations, the successful candidate will play a direct role in supporting Swoop’s safe on time performance through an integrated approach that balances business needs while maintaining regulatory compliance for crew members operating on Swoop aircraft. This is a twelve-month term position.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities: 

  • Accountable for the recruitment, training, performance, and management of Swoop Crew Schedulers and support staff to ensure consistent and efficient service is provided to all internal and external stakeholders while supporting the operation;
  • Responsible for ensuring Crew Schedulers adherence to Transport Canada regulations, Swoop policies, labour agreements, and internal standards and procedures;
  • Oversee daily scheduling requirements of all crew members and ensure adequate crew coverage of all positions;
  • Development of execution of Crew Scheduling budgets and workforce plans;
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of Crew Scheduler training and standard operating procedures;
  • Monitor and make recommendations for new processes, tools, system functionality, and/or new technology required to support the team and the operation;
  • Represent the interests of Crew Scheduling in all interdepartmental meetings and projects;
  • Work collaboratively with other leaders and teams within the Operations Control Center (OCC) to maintain safe on-time operations;
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive crew solutions to offset major operational disruptions and irregular operations;
  • Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of principles related to Fatigue Risk Management Systems (FRMS);
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
  • This position requires regular in-person presence at the WestJet Campus in Calgary.

Qualifications / Skills: 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with airline applications and software systems (specific emphasis on crew management systems).
  • Excellent working knowledge of Transport Canada Flight and Duty Regulations.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience highly desired.
  • Strong decision-making, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated success in establishing respect and credibility through action.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and implementation skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work flexible and varied shifts as required.
  • Experience in Labour Relations an asset.
  • Proven track record as a team builder and a leader.
  • Sabre Crew Trac and Workday experience preferred. Additional experience working with other Crew Scheduling systems (such as Merlot/AIMS) will be considered.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft programs (Microsoft Teams, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint).
